  9. On February 23, 2007, a sinkhole appeared in Guatemala City, Guatemala. It was 330 feet deep and took about 12 homes. This area had been rumbling for weeks before the incident. Only 3 people were killed, however, about 1,000 people had to evacuate. Now the sinkhole gives off sounds of flowing waters, the awful smell of sewage, and tremors.

  14. Suprisingly, a small earthquake hit the western part of North Carolina on February 18th, 2011. Although the earthquake only had a magnitude of 2.3, it was still a big deal because earthquakes don't occur there often. It struck at 2:14 am, so most people weren't even bothered by it. The earthquake's focus was 5.4 km below earth's surface. This earthquake was so far west in North Carolina that it was only 54 miles away from Chattanooga Tenessee. Although there was no reported damage or deaths from this earthquake, it will still be remembered by some North Carolinians who may never experience another earthquake in their life.
